Bowl Turning - Plate and Bowl
MATERIALS: Selection of hardwoods
TOOLS: Lathe, gouges, grinder
EXERCISE: Plate and bowl
PREREQUISITE: some experience with spindle turning tools
DURATION: 8 hours, two back to back sessions Saturday and Sunday afternoons
TIME: 2:00 pm to 6 pm
Bowl Turning - LEVEL 3, Weekend
If you enjoyed are Level 1 and level 2 classes then you're ready for our Level 3 class Turning Plates and Bowls. (we welcome returning students to take this class again). In these "face plate” sessions you will learn how to select wood, mount it on the chuck, and choose the correct shaped tool in order to begin turning plates or bowls and safely explore this craft which is a mixture of feel and knowledge.
If you want hands on experience in the basics for face plate turning and safely make bowls, our program takes you through the easy steps from a plate to a shallow candy bowl using dry wood . In these 2 back-to-back sessions you will have time to experience the tools and setup for safe turning. It includes tool shapes, sharpening and direct guidance in the hand motions needed to learn to turn safely. A wooden plate and shallow bowls are turned using dry wood, if time allows a green wood piece may be selected. These introductory lathe turning classes will cover theory and hands-on practice of all things wood turning.
All materials provided, no experience required, please bring a snack/lunch for when we take a nutrition break
