Edge City offers classes from beginner to advanced woodworkers. We specialize in small group classes, wood turning classes and shared woodworking space. We are an inclusive community of learners with a range of skills.

Shop Details

  • Top-quality machines with state-of-the-art dust collection

  • A variety of workbench sizes and vise styles for students to learn their preference

  • Located inside of the Mergatroid Building and its artistic community in East Vancouver, BC, Canada

Instruction

  • Our instructors have years of combined teaching experience

  • We welcome adult learners from beginners to those with a range of skills

  • All of our classes are designed to empower students to grow more confident and independent in their craft

  • We are a positive and encouraging learning community

Classes

  • Most classes range between 6 and 27 hours, over several evenings

  • Maximum capacity per class is 6 students

  • We have plenty of hand tools to share, but encourage students to bring their own tools (chisels, handplanes) for maintenance hints

As a student at Edge City, we recommend mapping out a pathway that suits your long-term desires, though committing to more than one course is never required.

The Beyond Basics series provides extended knowledge of topics covered in the Essentials. Offered in both weekly and intensive varieties

After a student has completed a Beyond Basics class, they can rent hourly shop time to work on personal projects (we have many plans to follow if you need them)

Our shop is located upstairs in unit #260 of the artistically eclectic Mergatroid Buildling at 975 Vernon Drive in East Vancouver, British Columbia.

Parking: There is plenty of parking in front of the building and across the street. (signs on front of buildling saying “unauthorized vehicles will be towed” can be ignored for students).

Public Transit: The #22 bus comes within 1 block of the building near the corner of Clark and Venables. We are about a 7 minute walk from Hastings and Clark which serves many bus routes, and a 20 minute walk from the Commercial SkyTrain station.
